At the end of practice one night Jared said "Shane, you always write happy songs...I want you to go home & write the saddest song you've ever written!" Later that week I decided to write what I call "my naked truth" song about the ups and mostly downs of my drinking days & all the inner horrors I've experienced with regret & not living exactly the way I should have been living. I sent a text voice memo of the verse to Jared & within and hour he text back a recording of the chorus complete with melody & lyrics that melded perfectly. After we laid the track down, I told Jared I wanted to re-record EVERYTHING except the instruments he recorded but he refused & convinced me to just leave it be. I'm glad he did.
